Rage against the Red-Headed She Beast.

Am I the only one who's DAMN dirty about Gillard giving the Greens a 20 per cent cut of her levy?

Please tell me I'm not!

Make a noise, people.

I'm mad too. But is there anything we can do about it??

Spread the word so people realise how utterly useless this government is so it never gets back into power.

Disgraceful.

It’s called negotiating people……….Do you really think they are not going to just make some cuts in another other area to make up for this, and by the way, perhaps you should stop reading this right wing windbag’s column and start thinking for yourselves?

I think we're thinking for ourselves. We certainly agree with his point of view. And besides; he just articulates it so much better.

And yes, of course they'll make new cuts. That's not the issue. The issue is that these new cuts are needed because they restored funds to things they'd ALREADY cut; things which they cut under the premise that they were deemed INEFFECTIVE anyway.

Why would you pour money into something which you've already said is ineffective? That's not negotiating. It's pandering to the Greens & Independents to ensure their support.

Well that's good that you think you're thinking after reading an article by a shrill tabloid hack telling you what to think.
You're really not understanding how the parliament works now, its by negotiating with the minor parties that legislation is going to get passed.
Just get over your born to rule mentality typical of conservatives and accept that the greens won a lot of support and have a right to heard.

Well, honestly I find it a refreshing change from the left-wing media telling me what to think.

Differing sources aside, however, negotiation in my (perhaps idealistic) mind would involve give and take with things still on the cards. Not things which have been ruled ineffective. Negotiating with minor parties to get motions through parliament may be necessary, but why can't they step up and and say,
"No. This isn't negotiable. It won't work. What else do you have?"

And if you want to keep posting, I'd appreciate it if you focused on the issue, and not make it personal.

Don’t see anything personal about what was written before, just a general observation that conservatives have a born to rule mentality, if you want to take that personally that’s your call.

Ah the old chestnut, it’s the left wing media bias, never mind that the majority of the press in Australia is owned by Murdoch, one of the most rabid conservatives of all

Maybe if Abbott had any negotiating skills you wouldn’t be in this position…Abbott's meltdown getting grilled by Riley and his inability to cope with difficult questions or anything that isn't stage managed shows what a one trick pony he is. The bloke is only good at carping, stunts and slogans. It's been a long time since someone has looked as inept as an alternative Prime Minister

Well, I actually do find being told that I'm 'not thinking for myself' rather personal. That and being accused of having a 'born to rule' mentality. I don't like the current government: that's true. I generally haven't liked Labor so much over the past several years. I'm not sure how that's a 'born to rule' mentality.

Re: media, I am having trouble finding figures on that. While Murdoch seems to own some prominent print media, it's noteworthy that he has no interests in Australian Free-to-air TV. And I haven't been able to find out who owns the commercial FTA television stations.

As for Abbott, Riley's actions have been widely agreed to be misquoted out of context (this consensus includes the deceased's widow). 'Misleading' would be the nicest word you could use to describe them. Perhaps even 'deliberate misrepresentation'. And slimy. And so they were. I think his reaction to Riley was understandable at some level. I think I'd be incapacitated with silent rage and surprise if someone had played such a dirty trick on me. And note how quickly Channel Seven switched their tack. Their reporter (Riley) slimed Abbot with a misquote and Channel Seven were all over it. When the public reacted negatively, they immediately focused on Tony Abbot's handling of it. Not the dirty deed Riley had done. They were out to bring him down with whatever they could?

"It's been a long time since [Abbott] has looked as inept as an alternative Prime Minister."

Queensland didn't think so: Neck and neck for preferred PM 3 days ago.

Like I wrote before, I you want to take it personally that’s your issue, perhaps you need to follow the advice of your fellow conservatives and toughen up.

As for Abbott, he had two hours notice about what Riley was doing and he still stood there like an ugly bad tempered boofhead (put that in to counter your colourful post title of Gillard), surely he should have been better prepared and defended himself with more thought.

Polls are pretty pointless at this point don’t you think? Gillard’s in power lets move on and try to be constructive. But if you want to start throwing them around here’s another one.
